ABOUT  ME

Zhou Ye, a visual artist , born in 1995 in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, China.
She studied at the China Academy of Art and later received both her undergraduate and master’s degrees from the Sorbonne School of the Arts, University of Paris I.

Since being shortlisted for the Leica Master Photography Competition in 2017, her practice has increasingly focused on social issues and female perspectives. In 2019, she formally began her artistic journey in France.

Her work navigates the intersection between documentary and conceptual photography. Through symbolic visual language and corporeal metaphors, she reveals the tensions between personal memory, gender identity, and social structures. She also works with video art and cross-media practices, seeking to transform static imagery into expansive and immersive narrative spaces.

Since late 2024, Zhou has been exploring painting as a new medium of expression, continuing her engagement with the theme of gestation. Using the female body and the uterus as central symbols, she delves into the complex realities and psychological struggles of women in contemporary society. Her work moves between reality and the surreal, imbued with both poetry and strength, constructing a visual allegory of life, resistance, and rebirth.
